Changing Lives. . . One Musician at a Time

Why Music?

I believe music is a key component of a well-rounded education.  Music builds community.  All children are innately musical and deserve the opportunity to experience the joy of making music together and the personal success of developing their own musicianship.

In my classroom, students move, sing, dance, and play.  They learn to value their own creativity as they learn to embrace the thoughts and ideas of their peers.  They learn that it is ok to take risks, to improvise, and to express themselves creatively.

Below are a few of the unique qualities and experiences I bring to music education:

  • Commitment to student-centered instruction
I have had the privilege of training in the Orff-Schulwerk approach through four years as a member of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.  In the Orff approach, students learn through exploration and play, acquiring the skills and tools to create their own music.
  • Experience building partnerships among schools and community organizations
I have worked with several community arts organizations for which I wore a variety of hats.  I have lead outreach and fundraising efforts through successfully seeking out community assets and building relationships.  These skills aid me in building a strong music program and foraging strong community connections.
  • Professional Musicianship
My experience as a performer enables me to help students discover their own natural talent.  Choral music is my personal passion and I have directed children’s choir as well as adult ensembles.  My background in classical voice and piano, as well as proficiency in guitar, allow to me share music with students authentically.
